FAQs
How long will my battery last?
The lifetime of a lithium ion battery is around 3-4 years. Batteries can expire in two different ways: one, it looses its capacity, meaning you will slowly get less and less milage out of it on each charge . The other potential destruction of battery life comes by failure of one of the cells, which can be fixed. The life expectancy of your battery can be extended by some simple maintenance, especially if it is not used for a long period of time. Simply charge it up and drain it either by riding or by leaving lights on. This is similar to occasionally running the engine on a car that is not driven often.
What's the best bike/board/vehicle?
There is no one machine that is universally accepted as the best. If and when one comes along, we'll always try to offer it here. We try to focus on selecting quality, durable, practical products at competitive prices.
Is my machine waterproof?
Electric bikes and boards are designed for all-weather use, including in the rain. However, they are not typically waterproofed and sealed, and should not be submerged in water or pressure washed. Products that are waterproof and specifically made for water use will be labeled as such. However, as with any electric product, you want to keep the internal components as dry as possible.
Can I charge my bike by pedaling?
No. Although some systems exist that use dynamotors and regenerative braking, they are often costly and will only return about a 10% charge. A standard wall outlet is your best bet.
What is peddle assist or PAS?
Peddle Assist driven e-bikes and electric machines, is a form of power delivery that is engaged when a pedal or hub turns. On an e-bike the electric motor is turned on when the rider is pedaling. There are usually varying levels of assistance that the rider can choose while riding and different makers of Peddle Assist makers, have different levels of torque or power that is released depending on how sensors are set. Sensors can detect and respond depending on gear settings, speed of the peddles turning or resistance on the gear system. Peddle Assist bikes are often given a different class of vehicle depending on local city laws and regulations and are more commonly used in Urban environments. Riders often say that there is more control in moderating speed and your hands are freed up to manage breaking better on a peddle assist system as opposed to e-bikes and vehicles that have a throttle.
